For decades La Serrezuela was Cartagena's bullring and circus theater: besides bullfights there was boxing and theater. Over the years it fell apart until it was nearly in ruins across from the wall.

In 2019 it reopened, restored, as a shopping and cultural center. The ring with its wooden stands was kept, now covered, and around it there are brand stores, a food court called El Tentadero and event spaces. The project won an architectural design award in 2021.

Even if you're not shopping, go in and look at the wooden structure from above. It has air conditioning, luggage storage and tax refunds for foreigners.

What to see

  • The wooden ring of the old bullring.
  • Colombian brand stores.
  • The El Tentadero food court.

Getting there

  • On foot from the Plaza de San Diego or from the Baluarte de Santa Catalina; it's across from the wall.
  • Taxi: ask for the La Serrezuela shopping center.

Tips

  • Go up to the top floors to see the whole ring.
  • If you have luggage before your flight, ask about the luggage storage.
