The Instituto de Patrimonio y Cultura de Cartagena (IPCC) organizes this pastel festival every December; the pastel comes wrapped in bijao leaf. In 2025 it ran December 17 to 26, debuted the Plaza de Variedades and sold more than 38,000 pasteles, according to the IPCC's report.
It falls in the middle of the year-end season, when Cartagena has its highest rates. If you plan to spend Christmas here, the pastel is a good excuse, but you need to book your hotel months in advance.
