Parque de los Pies Descalzos (Barefoot Park) is in the La Alpujarra area, in front of EPM's Edificio Inteligente. The land was a nearly abandoned lot of about three hectares in the mid-nineties; work began in 1998 and the park was finished in 2000. EPM paid for it and architect Felipe Uribe de Bedout designed it.
The idea is simple: take off your shoes. There are sand areas, shallow pools, water fountains and a guadua bamboo grove like a Zen garden. Kids get in the water and adults sit with their feet in the sand.
The Museo del Agua EPM is inside the park, and around it are the Teatro Metropolitano, Plaza Mayor and the La Alpujarra administrative center.
