The park was built for the centennial of Cartagena's 1811 independence, and it has yellow entrance arches and a monument in the middle. You pass through it going between Getsemaní and the Torre del Reloj.
What people come for is the animals: sloths hanging from the high branches, tamarins, squirrels and iguanas. Some days you won't see any; you have to look up patiently.
The city renovated it and reopened it on December 12, 2025. In 2024 there were reports of people taking sloths down to charge for photos; environmental authorities ask visitors not to touch or feed the animals.
