Free walking tour of the old town and Getsemaní

It's a guided walking tour of two to two and a half hours through the historic center, and in one version through Getsemaní too. You pay with a tip at the end, and it leaves from the Plaza Santa Teresa.

Almost every blog recommends doing a free tour on your first day to get a feel for the city: the wall, the plazas, the history of the port and the Inquisition. Free Tour Cartagena is the operator mentioned most.

The old town tour leaves at 10:00 a.m. and lasts two hours. The old town and Getsemaní tour leaves at 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and lasts two and a half hours. You'll recognize the guides by their yellow umbrella.

There's no set price: at the end everyone gives what they think it was worth. Other operators leave from the Plaza de Santo Domingo and can be booked on platforms like Civitatis or GuruWalk.

Bring water, a cap and cash for the tip.
Pick the afternoon slot to avoid the midday sun.
If someone on the street offers you a 'free tour' with no umbrella and no booking, it's something else: they usually take you to shops that pay them a commission.
