The museum belongs to the Banco de la República (Colombia's central bank) and tells the story of the Zenú, the people who lived on the plains of Colombia's Caribbean and worked gold with fine techniques.

It's in a colonial house with wooden balconies on the Plaza de Bolívar, next to the Palacio de la Inquisición. It was renovated and reopened as a free museum.

There are free guided tours without booking, in Spanish and English. It's a short stop in the middle of a walk around the old town.
