Getsemaní was the craftsmen's neighborhood: blacksmiths, shipwrights, barbers and fishermen lived outside the main ring of the wall. Its residents took part in the November 1811 uprisings that pushed for Cartagena's full independence.
The Plaza de la Trinidad, in front of the Trinidad church, is where the neighborhood gets together. In the afternoon it fills with neighbors, and at night with people going out to eat and dance. The statue of Pedro Romero and the Getsemaní lancers is there.
The surrounding streets have murals. They started on Calle de la Sierpe and spread to the Callejón Angosto and the blocks near the plaza. Several are about how tourism has changed the neighborhood.
