The Patti family started out in Cali in 1961 with the idea of making gelato the way it's made in Italy. They set up the factory in Rozo, on the family's cattle farm, and brought the machinery in through the port of Buenaventura. That story is told in photos on one of the shop's walls.
The El Peñón shop has a terrace on the street and tables inside. There's a long display case of flavors, many with no added sugar, lactose-free or vegan, and they let you taste before you choose. They also sell cakes, brownies, milkshakes and coffee. Today it has locations in Barranquilla, Medellín, Bogotá and Valledupar.
The brand kept posting on Instagram in September and October 2026, after the August 10 earthquake, and Google Maps shows this shop with normal hours.
