Urbania is a Medellín coffee brand born around 2015. It buys coffee directly from small growers, processes it in its own plant and sells it in its shops, to other businesses and abroad. It's a B Corp, a certification for companies that measure their social and environmental impact.

It now has more than a dozen shops, almost all in Medellín. The one travelers recommend most is Urbania 8, on Calle 8 in Astorga, one block from Parque El Poblado: a small place with a bar at the back, wooden tables, plants and a shelf with their bagged coffee and gear for brewing at home.

They serve espresso, cappuccino, pour-over and cold drinks, plus breakfasts and desserts. Customers talk a lot about the cinnamon waffle, the carrot cake and the turmeric latte. It fills up mid-morning and has few tables.

Getting there

Metro: Poblado station (Line A), then about a 10-minute walk east along Calle 8.
On foot from Parque El Poblado: walk one block down Calle 8.
Taxi: ask for Calle 8 with Carrera 43B, Astorga.

Tips

Go early or after lunch; mid-morning it's hard to get a table.
If you like coffee, take home a bag: it's Colombian coffee bought directly from the farm.
On weekends it closes at 3:30 p.m.
