Son Havana opened in 2010 in Florida Nueva, in Laureles, as a bar devoted to salsa and Cuban music. A month after it opened, the Cuban orchestra Los Van Van visited, and they came back in 2025 to celebrate the bar's 15th anniversary.
The walls are covered in murals and posters of salsa musicians, and the dance floor is small, so people dance close together. Wednesdays are for Cuban timba, on Thursdays La Sonora plays and on Fridays and Saturdays there are guest orchestras.
The night starts around 8 with a short salsa class for beginners. Nights with an orchestra have a cover charge; on Thursdays it's COP 20,000. There's no kitchen, but you can order food from outside.
