Isla de Tierra Bomba (Punta Arena)
Tierra Bomba is the island across from Bocagrande. Punta Arena has beach clubs and fish restaurants; you get there by boat in 10 or 15 minutes from behind the Hospital de Bocagrande.
- Hours
- Daytime; boats come back before sunset.
- Price
- Round-trip boat: it shouldn't be more than about COP 30,000 per person according to Blu Radio (August 2025, checked 2026-10-12). Clubs charge separately.
- Price level
- $$$$$
- Duration
- All day
- Address
- Punta Arena, Isla de Tierra Bomba, Cartagena
It's the easiest beach plan from the city: a short boat ride, clubs with loungers and a pool, and a fish lunch. From the beach you can see the Bocagrande buildings.
To be honest: the water isn't crystal clear like in the Rosario, because the island is inside the bay. It's good for a relaxed day, not for snorkeling.
Watch out for the boatmen: in 2025 Blu Radio reported on tourists who were charged COP 80,000 for the boat and then COP 1,800,000 for using a beach. The report's benchmark is not to pay more than COP 30,000 round trip.
What to see
- The Punta Arena beaches.
- The view of Bocagrande from the sea.
- Sunset over the city.
Getting there
- Boat from the pier behind the Hospital de Bocagrande, in Castillogrande: 10 to 15 minutes.
- Many beach clubs include the boat in the price.
Tips
- Agree in writing on the total round-trip boat price, and whether it includes use of the beach or a tent.
- It's better to book with a beach club that already includes transportation.
- Don't accept 'just pay for what you consume' from boatmen on the street: it's the most reported scam.
