The flight leaves from the hangars at Olaya Herrera Airport. Before takeoff they drive you around the aircraft area in a van and take you to a waiting room they decorate for whatever you're celebrating: a birthday, an anniversary, a proposal.
The route crosses Medellín from south to north: Cerro Nutibara, La Alpujarra, the stadium, the Botanical Garden, the metro viaduct. It continues over Bello, Copacabana, Barbosa and San Vicente to the reservoir. There the pilot flies a full circle around El Peñol rock and lands at a hotel on the water.
On the ground you have two hours to climb the rock, have lunch or walk around town. Then the helicopter picks you up at the same spot and flies back to Olaya Herrera. The round trip is about 140 kilometers of flying.
The price is per helicopter, not per person. It takes up to 5 passengers with a 380-kilo limit for the group. Insurance and taxes are included, and each extra hour of waiting in Guatapé costs COP 800,000.
