It was founded by Cali native Hugo Suárez Fiat on October 22, 2008, and bills itself as Colombia's first film museum. According to the city government, it holds more than 7,000 objects: magic lanterns, optical toys, hand-cranked and electric projectors, movie cameras, analog still cameras, posters and film stills.
The piece they show off most is a daguerreotype-style camera that, according to the museum, dates from 1840 to 1842. There are 8, Super 8, 9.5, 16, 35 and 70 mm projectors, and a room of Colombian movie posters. Visits are guided, in Spanish or English.
It's on the west side, on Avenida Belalcázar, a few blocks from Museo La Tertulia and the Bulevar del Río. We found no reports of damage to the museum from the August 2026 earthquake, but no official confirmation of its current hours either.
