Salón Málaga

Salón Málaga opened in 1957 on Carrera Bolívar, almost under San Antonio metro station. It was founded by Gustavo Arteaga, who came from Caramanta, and his family still runs it.

You come here to hear old music: tango, boleros, porros, bambucos and waltzes. The founder collected about 7,000 78 rpm records, and the walls are covered with photos of singers and artists who passed through. There are jukeboxes, gramophones and antique radios everywhere.

You order a beer, rum or aguardiente and grab a table. The dance floor is for couples of all ages; on Saturdays an orchestra or live band usually plays, and now and then there are tango classes.

• Metro: San Antonio station (Lines A and B); the bar is a few steps away.
• Taxi: ask for Carrera Bolívar with Calle 46, across from San Antonio station.

Tips

• Go on a Saturday if you want live music.
• Pair it with the end of the free walking tour, which finishes at Parque San Antonio.
• At night, leave in a taxi booked through an app; don't walk around downtown at that hour.
