The house was built around 1715 and passed through several families until Ingenio Providencia bought it in 1942. The museum opened in 1981. The house keeps its adobe walls, tile roofs, wide corridors, dining room and chapel with period pieces.
The gardens hold sugar mills from different regions of Colombia, from wooden ones driven by animals to steam engines and hydraulic presses, plus a working water wheel. The museum's guided tour takes about an hour; the park adds forest trails and a lake.
The park protects 414 hectares of the Amaime River reserve and is home to birds like the Cauca guan. Hacienda El Paraíso, in the same municipality, is still closed after the August 2026 earthquake; the Museo de la Caña shows as open on Google Maps and its 2026 rates are published.
