El Social opened in 1969 as the corner store: it sold soap, coffee and whatever the neighbors needed day to day. Provenza grew up around it and the store became a bar, without losing its corner-store look.
Today the tables spill out onto the street, under the trees and hanging bulbs. You order a beer or a drink, and to eat there are posta empanadas, platters to share and home-style dishes like sudado (stew) or fried fish with patacón. At night salsa plays, and when there's a game they put it on the screen.
The Provenza spot is the first location. They later opened others in Lalinde, Manila and Envigado, but this is the original store.
